Old-Fashioned Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. dried navy beans (4 cups), sorted and rinsed
  • 10 cups water
  • 3 cups water
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)

Directions

Place beans and 10 cups water in 6 quart dutch oven. Heat to boiling over high heat; reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 2 hours. Drain and discard liquid. Mix beans, 3 cups water and remaining ingredients in 4-5 quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat 10-12 hours. Beans will hold on low setting up to 1 1/2 hours; stir occasionally.
