This makes one large loaf. Usually two loaves of challah are made to represent the two days worth of manna the Jewish people collect (for the Sabbath) during the trip through the dessert. Each loaf would be braided using six strips, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. Christians braid each loaf using three strips, representing the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Program to dough cycle. When done take out dough. Separate into three sections. Make each section into long strips and braid together. Let rise for about an hour. Brush top with beaten egg whites and bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
