Those who are interested in encouraging your children to read maybe interested in read to feed http://www.readtofeed.org/
You can order a leader packet for your individual HS or a group, and church too at http://www.readtofeed.org/order_packet/ It is a program where children are sponsered to read by page/book/time if the sponsered amount you buy livestock for a poor family in a poor country. To provide food, income and ect. |

You are all welcome....
I hope all of you have a better time doing this than we did. No one sponsered my poor kids, Only me. I guess people had a hard time believing that we ( 1 family) would be doing this correctly or that we could have made a difference..... IF they would have sponsered my DD#1 for 10 cents a book they would be paying out more than a couple of $s a month.....she never stops reading.. I have to tell her to stop reading to start her schoolwork |

There are only two participating states, Arkanasa and Virginia. I am having a hard time finding out how to purchase an animal. What does it cost to buy a goat or something?

QUOTE(Appliejuice @ Jul 29 2005, 08:48 AM) There are only two participating states, Arkanasa and Virginia. I am having a hard time finding out how to purchase an animal. What does it cost to buy a goat or something? I am not sure what you mean about participating states...... A goat is $120 a share is $10 Sheep $120 Share $10 Llama $150 Share $10 Flock of Ducks and Gesse $20 Honeybees $20 Heifer $500 Share $50 Trio of Rabbits $60 Share $10 Tree Seedlings $60 Share $10 Water Buffalo $250 Share $25 Pig $120 Share $10 Flock of Chicks $20 Knitting Basket $500 ( 2 Llamas, and 2 sheep, male and female) Milk Menaerie $1,000 (1 Heifer, 2 goats, and 1 Water Buffalo) If you request a Leader Pack, all of this is in that pack. A student pack gives you:Animal gift catalog, Sponsor envelope, Bookmarks and Stickers enough for 5 students. The teacher pack gives you: Read to Feed leader's guide, Beatrice's Goat (softcover book), "The Promise" (video), Posteer, and Read to Feed brochure and one of each item in the student pack. You can also request a curriculum guide. I think you should order the Leader Pack, if you decide you can't use it could could give it to a teacher friend or your church... |

I don't want to order it if we are not able to do it. I don't have another person to give it to. If we did this as a family, do we have to pay for the entire goat, $100, or can we put in a share, $10.00? |

I just went back over the list. I see that honeybees only cost $20.00. We can do that.

From what I uderstand you can just put a share.....I and the kids bought a flock of the birds (don't remember which one) that was $20. Just make sure you order from the Individual program......I don't think they would have any problem...that is why they offer the "share" I am guessing. |

This looks like an outstanding program! I've ordered my packet & some brochures to share with our local hs organization.
Hopefully they will have their upper elementary curriculum soon. |
