I hope I am doing this right and if it has already been discussed I apologize.

I am wondering if anyone has used "Explode the Code" or "Get Ready for the Code"? When I started teaching my now first grader we used Abeka. She became frustrated by it so we stopped altogether for about two months. She was only 4 at the time but had begged to do school like her older siblings. One day I brought out book A for get ready for "Get Ready for the Code" and she loved it! She flew through the series of three and started on "Explode the Code 1". She was reading in no time. We have moved on to CLP "Adventure in Phonics for 1st grade" but still supplement with the "Explode the Code series.

KC~

This actually sounds fine to me. Both my boys have hit 'walls' at different times during the learning to read process. I think it just takes time for the brain to fully integrate everything its taken in. Think of it like a growth spurt...for awhile you can't seem to feed them enough...then they shoot up another inch or two...then for awhile, the don't seem to eat at all...and they can wear the same clothes for an entire season or two!

I have a question for those of you who use Explode the Code. I am about to purchase this for my dd who is 5. We reached Lesson 75 of 100 EZ Lessons and had to stop because she got overwhelmed. We started Alphaphonics and she likes that a lot. However, I wanted to supplement with the Explode workbooks to reinforce what she has learned--she enjoyed the lesson I downloaded from the website. I like that it had writing practice, spelling and comprehension elements.

My question is about the 1/2 books. I'm going to get Book1 and Book 2 and want to know if Book 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 are just review of Book 1 and Book 2, respectively. help2.gif I found a pretty good deal on shipping from a lady on ebay but she does not have the 1/2 books. Will I need them? dunno.gif

Lynn, my oldest is a pretty good reader and we did not use the 1/2 books at all. Since you're supplementing w/ETC...then the 1/2 books would be supplementing your supplement! laugh.gif
