I was just wondering about one of the Kentucky's homeschooling requirements for instructional hours. Do you have to homeschool them six hours a day or does it matter as long as you make the yearly hour quota? Other people act like that is a long time, so I was just wondering if maybe I misunderstood the law. Thanks.

Hi Sylvia, that's my dd's name. Either way, just as long as you have your yrly hrs and required min days which is 175 are met.
We are 6 days aweek. Somedays are 4hrs and some are 6hrs. I log in chores as life skills, extra curricula activities, and Church on Wednesday evening, & Sunday mornings & evenings. I figure if they are learning / helping or being productive I credit their time. |

Okay.
We used to do our grocery shopping in Leitchfield all the time. I haven't been down that way in a long time. (I did go check out the new Walmart when it first opened.) |

I'm in Louisville, Kentucky I don't like it here too much, I would love to live in a small rural-typed town. |

Hi there! My name is Tiffany, too, and I'm in Clark County, Kentucky, just east of Lexington. I'm also doing fewer hours/more days. My oldest ds has special needs and does much better this way. |

If you all graduated in 1990, we all would have been at the high school at the same time! How cool! I went to Bonnieville Elementary. Guess I should add that my actual graduating class was 1994....but I took the correspondence course so I could graduate in '93 instead of '94! Do you recognize my name? (in my signature) My name is few and far between! |

Its so neat to run across some on from my home area. Well I was looking in my Senior year book but if you were suppose to graduate in 94 you wouldn't be in it. Sorry I don't recognize the name. But my Grandmother lived in Bonnieville all of my life. Well close to it anyway. I hung around there some but not alot. I'm sure we probably know some of the same people. We moved away a little over 15 yrs ago. We are stationed in Hawaii now so I haven't been home for about a year and a half. My brother lives in Munfordville and I miss them very much. I doubt we will ever move back to Ky but hope to move to Tennessee when my husband retires.
This is our first year of homeschooling. It has been an interesting one. I have a 14, 11 year old boys and one daughter that is 3 yrs old. |

Oh well......even if you don't know me, it's nice to have a hometown hs'ing mom on here.
Back when I was in HCHS, we had to do 1/2 days at the high school in 8th grade! My mother works for Munfordville Schools and my sister is now a subsitute teacher for the Hart County Schools and Grayson County Schools. (She's sub'ing until a full-time teaching position opens..) As for Bonnieville, I know tons of people there....Walters, Amos, Waldecks, Adcocks, Riggs, Reams, Nunns, Pences, and on and on.........LOL! Seems like everyone is kinfolk in Bonnieville. I've been married 12 years now. We have hs'ed for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades so far for my oldest. My daughter is now doing some preschool stuff on a daily basis. We plan on hs'ing thru high school. So nice to meet you... You'll love it here! I've been here for a couple of years and it's my "home" on the internet. |

Yep I know quite a few of those names. LOL I went to Munfordville from K thru 8th. 8th graders started going over to the highschool for half a day right after I went to the highschool. Is your husband from that area also. Is your Mom a teacher there?
How do people there respond to you homeschooling? I know here it is very common for Military here on the island to homeschool due to the schools being so behind the mainland. But I still get people that tell me I'm messing my kids up. But I use to be one of those people that thought homeschooling was weird. But it was because I hadn't heard of it growing up. How do people respond to you? |
